Looking for a 968 Engine

Saddly my '92 cabbie overheated, crack in the #4 cyl wall. So I'm in the market for an engine, complete, long or short block.

Alternately if anyone is looking for a very nice roller, contact me.

I notice a 206 area code. A friend in pierce county has a 968 engine, still in the parts car, still starts & runs. Fresh belts even! He's not trying to sell it yet, but if the price is right, I'm sure he would.

OTOH, is your car in good shape? What colors? My wife wouldn't mind a 968 cab, and I may have better luck prying the engine from my friend's garage.

Depends. How much are you willing to spend?

I'd in interested in the engine in pierce county. I'm also looking at one in CA for about $3500 (58k miles).

However, I planned to sell the car anyway (too many projects, not just cars). So if anyone wants to consider buying a nice looking roller let me know. I can send pictures next week. the car is white, blue leather, blue top, all in pretty darn good shape. Not concours, but she turns heads on the road. Virtually new tires (SZ50Firehawks), nice rims. Tranny, brakes, clutch all good. Has a really nice $3000 stereo in it (big amp, plays MP3s) -- if you want the car that will cost extra. In a way, even the engine is good except for the crack in the cylinder... ;-) New water pump, rollers, belts. Head is being re-tested for cracks (I'll know on Tuesday 7/20/04).

History: I'm it's 3rd owner, had it 4 years, drove it off/on two (good weather only). What happen is it blew a head gasket, then very quickly overheated, so I towed it in. The mechanic missed this crack in the cylinder when he tore it apart the first time. Having missed it, he had the head redone, reassembled, started it, ran fine, and then it started steaming. Oil in the water. So he removed the spark plugs and water squirted out #4. I was there when he removed the head the 2nd time. And sure enough, 2" long crack in the wall. The mechanic was super embarrased, I'm bummed, you know the drill. So I'm $2500 into it and no car to show for it. He said the crack was basically invisible the first time. He's a well known mechanic, oh well crap happenes.

PM me if you are interested in the car. I'm strongly leaning towards selling it as a roller. Oh it has at least a partial set of factory repair manuals (I'm trying to get the rest of the original owner, who it ironicaly turned out I used to work with years ago).

As for price. Some guy in Florida (who rebuilds 968 motors and also puts Corvette engines in them) said it's worth about $6k and asked me to contact him if I decide to sell it. Guess he named his price. But talk is cheap.

Again PM me if you are interested. I'm willing to move pretty fast on this.

Cheers and thanks for the great responses.
