starting problem
 

had this occur twice during this week.

usually after I've the cars been running and then stopped.

when the turning the key, the engine/starter made a "struggling" sound, no both occasions I switched off, as I thought it sounded like a flatish battery.

Today when this happened, I'd been out for a long.... drive, parked up, tyo pick something up, tried to start, got the struggling sound,
switched off, left for 30sec's. started then the car imediatly stalled, started again, then it was ok.

got home and did some basic visual checks, all ok,
DME was replaced this/last year (new OEM part), unplugged the relages and refitted, all fuses ok and battery connections ok !

could this be a starter problem, seems only from hot,
as I said it was as if the starter could not or did not have enough juice to crank the engine when the fault developed ?

Check your ground (earth) wire from the battery to the engine, A corroded\poor connection can cause a hot start issue like you describe

the battery is in the back,
and I did have a look at that, seems and feels ok

If the battery is in the back it just makes a marginally corroded wire more of a problem. You still have a ground strap from the battery to the chassis and you still have a ground strap from the chassis to the engine assembly. The engine assembly includes the ground path for the starter.

This is also true for the heavy wire from the battery as it goes directly to the strarter.

Look for corrosion inside the large wire at the battery and at the starter.

"Fatsih" battery?????

yep yep, this is also true, willl need to check this any idea of exact location on the S2 ?

Googled it for $hits and giggles, it's a battery subjected to fatish porn!

Not looked at the car yet but

I'm gonna replace the battery and engine earth cable, check the starter leads and get a spare DME relay as a start
