Talking Guess what's broke this time!

Alrighty, i think i may know but i want to hear a few guesses from the pros (AFJuvat, SoCal, other mechanics).

Here's the symptoms:

- Excessive vibration in all RPM ranges.
- Engaging the clutch into first (to begin movement) results in horrible shudder in the front and rear end of the car.
- When pressing the clutch pedal in (disengaging the clutch) you can hear a high-pitched squeal/grinding noise from underneath the car and in the cab.
- Reverse gear will not engage/grinds whence attempting to shift to reverse.
- In neutral, allowing the car to coast going forwards or backwards, excess vibration and high-pitched squeal/grinding noises from under the car.

I wonder wonder wonder what's putting my car in the shop this time!

Do you have a spring center clutch disk? Not being able to get into reverse suggests that the clutch is not disengaging.

My guess is that one or more springs have fallen out of the disk, unbalancing it (causing vibration) and getting caught in the pressure plate (making distressing noises) where they prevent full disengagement.

Jack up the back end. Put it in neutral. Turn one of the back wheels and see where the noise comes from.

Roger, they didnt ask me when it was apart if i wanted to replace it. I got the thing back and on the receipt it said in their inspection that it was "OKAY, DOESNT NEED REPLACEMENT". I dont think ill ever go back there, though. Unless it's to litigate.

Oh damn... i just saw the poll numbers.

I'm desperately hoping it's not an "all of the above" problem.

sounds like something (pressure plate / release bearing / clutch disk). Something is not allowing the clutch to disengage properly.

w00p! it's dead as of 5:50 pm.

Car stalled at a major intersection when trying to let the clutch. Then proceeded to instigate my wrath by not starting.

After a couple minutes it started up, i was able to limp the car, with much pushing, back to my friend's house in Rancho.

So, now im just hanging around, chillin wit dah 'Nilla Iyce. luckily i got a borrowed car until i can get the clutch fixed on mine.

I took a look under the hood... How much of a gap am i supposed to have between the flywheel and bellhousing??
