1987 944S won't start

The car just turns over and over but never fires. The car has spark and is getting fuel. I replaced the DME relay with a spare one and still nothing. I jumped the DME relay terminals and nothing. I've been having problems with the car hesitating and sometimes the engine would die as soon as it started. But now it won't even start. It was running the other day and then I cleaned the coil terminals, cleaned the hall sensor harness connection, removed the cap and rotor and removed the plugs and after I put everything back together it won't start. Any ideas? I've gone through and checked everything I disconnected and I still can't get it to start. Any ideas?

If it has good spark and fuel, it should fire...unless you have a massive hole in all your pistons. How did you check for spark and fuel?

My biggest suggestion would be to double check the plug wires. If it ran prior, I'd bet you put them on wrong.

Checked for spark with a timing light on each plug wire. So I suppose the plugs could not be firing. Checked for fuel by jumping the DME relay terminals. And when I pulled the plugs after trying to start it I could smell gas on them. I thought about the plug wires also but I never removed them from the cap. I just removed the cap with the wires still in place so I wouldn't get them mixed up.

Ok, looks like my #2 plug wire is bad. I pulled the plugs and put them up to the intake manifold and all sparked but the #2. Swapped the #1 plug wire with the #2 and got spark. The end that connects to the cap looked slightly corroded. But would the engine just flat out not even try to start on 3 cylinders?
