sluggish speedometer
what would cause the speedo to read slower than what it should be until i quit accelerating. then it catches up to where it needs to be. it is on a 86 944 turbo.

If you have the same cable speedo a lot of us do:
Did the square fitting in the back of the speedometer get stripped? That would cause this issue, though I haven't seen it happen. If the collar that holds the cable is not screwed down completely, that may also do it. |
i thought the 85/2 and up wasnt mechanical, but electric. i might be wrong.
|
I don't know--I've only worked on the cable ones.

The 85/2 and newer speedometer (except for the 924S cars) are driven by an electric signal from the speedometer sender mounted on the transaxle.
If your speedo is sluggish, as you describe, the speedometer head needs to be serviced. There are several places that will charge you $100 to $150 to fix it. gb |
If it goes to zero and back up sometimes then it is probably the impulse sender in the transaxle.

well, i might just need the whole cluster. the bar gauge reads wrong at times, the fuel gauge wont go to full when i fill it up, and if i hit the dash hard, the water temp will lower.
