What the hell battery do I buy?

Well, my battery offically bit the dust--I've kinda been putting off putting a new one in because, well, the old one was still starting the car.

What battery should I get? Do places like AutoZone/PepBoys carry them, or do I have to order it?

I got my last one at O'Reilley's Auto Parts. Just told them the make and model and they had the right one. That was almost four years ago and it's still going strong.

If you're anywhere near Reno I've got a spare, fairly new one in the garage you can have. I don't remember the spec's on it. If you're not, I went to AutoZone and bought one of their's -DuraGold or something and it has a 3 year replacement and 3 year pro-rated after that.

The one from the VW will fit (listed for a 924) but you have to put some heater hose over the +ve terminal or it could hit on your body and cause some fire works.

AutoZone Duralast

800 cranking amps, 3 year 100% replacement, pro rated after that and won't cost you a limb or two.

Went to AutoZone and got a DuraLast.

Yea, I thought most places would have it, too, but it was actually pretty hard to find.

I think my alternator is going, I put the new battery in and the voltmeter in the dash is showing the needle at about 11 (ie, between the red line and 12). I'm looking forward to this one...

Battery

If your voltmeter is at 11 volts with the car running, I'd say your alternator is not going, it's gone. Check the voltage at the battery (running), if it should be about 13.5 volts.
