My '84 944 is for sale

Hey guys,

Well, i finally have to do it. I need to get rid of my '84 944. Now that i have a 968, and I'm keeping it, i just don't have the space in an apartment complex to hang onto 3 cars, not to mention I don't want to pay the insurance premiums to keep all 3. I haven't driven the 944 much since i've had the 968 running, and i don't anticipate driving it much anymore. Therefore, i'm offering it up for sale to my friends on the Pelican BBS first.

Here is a link to the posting on the "cars for sale" board:

Well maintained 1984 944, solid, needs nothing.

I'm asking $4500, which is a little above the average selling price for a car of this year, but those of you who know me, know i keep my cars in tip-top shape. This car is in excellent condition and needs nothing. Timing belt and water pump is about 1 year old, and about 2000 miles it. The 1800 mile re-tension was just done.

the posting i linked above has all the details and a few pictures. The pictures are a little old, but i will take some new ones and post them soon.

If anyone is interested, send me a P.M. or call me at (860) 836-4556. I don't check my P.M.'s more than about once a day, so if you don't hear from me immediately, don't worry, i'll contact people in the same order i receive your messages in.

i can vouch for the condition of this car, as well as mike's mechanical expertise

i stopped by his place yesterday so that he could drive my car and tell me if i did indeed have a steering problem (remember how i keep saying my steering is "loose"?). Within minutes he had diagnosed the problem and fixed it. Car drives 100% better now.

Mike:

Now that you have experienced both a 944 and 968, can you describe the differences? Just curious to know.
I would love a 968

You can really feel the difference 100hp more makes. The 968 feels a bit heavier and not as stiff. I love the 6 speed but unless you are on the highway you rarely use it.

the 968 has the power the 944 SHOULD have had. It's a more civilized, modern car, it goes much faster, but i certainly feel more confident throwing my 944 into a corner. the extra 500lb or so in the 968 makes it feel like a larger car. The 944 feels more stable at high speed (at least mine does) although it's harder to get there. The 968 keeps up with traffic better, without even trying, the 944 always feels like your're pushing it (accelleration wise) just to keep up.

The 968 is more like a slightly modd'ed turbo, but without the turbo lag.

I agree with you Mike. I always feel like I'm stomping on the gas with the 944. So you think the 968 is slightly faster than a 951? I have never driven one but the 0-60 and top end is better on a 951, right? The lag is what makes it feel slow?

mike, i'm not sure if your description of the 968 is completely accurate.

I think you better let me drive yours so that I know for sure.
