Calling ALL cricket owners
1. What on earth are the correct tensioning specs for the timming belt and the balance belt?

2. Where the H3LL do you put it to get an accurate reading?

I have been standing in front of my car for almost 2 hours and I am not confident enough with what I am doing to drive the car to get the tension checked.

Thanks guys,

Nope, that was the one I was using. No matter how hard I pushed on his back I couldn't get the "clicking" noise. All I heard was a "crunch". I tried with two more but same noise. I figured it may be the belt so I took it off and threw on a tube sock. Gonna tension it tommorow once I have the correct settings.

I have read 40 for new belt and 28 for used one. I have also read 38 for used one. That is ALOT of difference.
Also, all the pictures for placement are on early models without the spring tensioner. I know I should be ok with just that but I want to be sure. How do I use it with the tensioner? I don't seem to have any room.

If you have an auto-tensioner, just loosen the two nuts on the tensioner and let it move to a new position, then tighten the nuts again.

If you say it is o.k. then that is what I will do. I did that but I just kept wondering? How does it diferentiate between a new belt and a used one? I would assume that it has only one tension setting. I guess in abot 2000km or so I will release it again to re-tension the stretched belt.

Should I drive it somewhere to get it checked right away or just have faith in the tensioner and re-tension later.

Also, should the belt be at the front edge of the cam pulley or a couple of mm back from the edge?

I will let the tensioner out and then tighten it again. roll the belt over a couple of times then go back to TDC and do it again. Does that sound good?
