stuck caliper?
So I was picking up the pace, and having an easier time with getting this brake job done. I got out one pad from the front left, and the other one (inside) won't budge no matter how hard I try. I mean, I am squeezing the buh-jesus out of this thing, and nothing. Can I spray PB Blaster on the pistons or something to get them to move?

sounds like your having "fun" fixing up your brakes,
do you have the brake line disconected from the caliper? may make the squeezing easier. if that dont help take a hammer and a punch and tap on the out side of the pistons in a circle motion or stick the caliper in a vise and squeeze away. (dont forget to put a rag over the hole wear the brake line was connected. lessens the squirt) be sure to rebleed the brake lines when done to get the air out again. keep having fun

I ended up jamming a flathead between the pad and each piston, and pried like unholy hell until I got them to push in. I had sprayed them with PB Blaster. I also had to take the caliper off to get the pad out, cause there was no way it was coming out the right way. Brad is tellin me my caliper is toast. Tell me this isn't true?!?!

I said maybe... this is why you are playing with it as we speak...
You can rebuild the caliper if its that bad...

If the piston won't move, at the very least, you'll need to rebuild the caliper. if it's seized, the trick becomes getting the piston out without scratching it so that you can rebuild it..............
You might want to call someone like 944 ecology, or german auto dismantlers, to see if you can pick up a good used caliper. it would certainly be easier than rebuilding yours, and might also be cheaper.

Why is it so bad to scratch a piston?
BTW- I think its ok- the pistons seem to move in and out ok at the moment. I'll grease them up real well tonight. |

scratches in the piston cause leaks in the seals. Try compressed air to pop the piston out
