I'm interested in getting this subwoofer box but $130 is not cheap.

Does anyone own this? How does it sound? Are the box dimensions so unique that it is difficult to reproduce?
Basically, I am wondering if I could make a similar box and save myself a couple of bucks.

It'll sound as good as any 8" sub will. If you're interested in something like that I can make you one for $75 + shipping, then you can find your own sub and driver. Oh, and bonus, the primary material I have on hand has a very lovely wolf print on it.

seriously...the box I can make would look 10X neater than that one. That's not a professional product...

What size of sub is it for? There's WAY too much volume in that compatment for a 8 inch, or a 10 inch. Hell, there's probably too much for a 12 inch. Thus meaning it won't get the hit you're looking for, and there's no way that thing is sealed (ported boxes sound like a$$).

For an 8 inch sub.

There's alot of depth in that hole but I don't believe you can fit any larger of a sub cause of the opening width.

(I would love to be able to fit a larger sub.

Thanks for the offer. I am gonna do a little more research, but I might just take you up on that.

I would build it around a 10". A decent 10" sub needs right around 1 cubic foot. Here's how you make sure the volume is appropriate:

First, seal the sompartment with a trash bag...a 5g one would more than suffice. Take two cans of expanding foam insulation and empty them into the trash bag. Tie not in trashbag, put the flap back over it. You might, before tieing the bag, want to put a 1/4" vac or fuel line in the knot to vent the bag, which will prevent bubbling.

After the faom dries, pull the bag out and trim the unnecessary edges build your enclosure around it. AFter you've built the encoser, a solid shape, cut a piece out of the bottom. Pour in 7 gallons of water and mark the level. 7 gallons is just under 1' and is an acceptable grey area between a 10" and a 12". I've used 7 gallons on a lot of setups with decent results...only when I've had an undecided customer. IF you know the exact sub you want you can ask me and I'll tell you what an appropriate volume is.

Anyways, with the level marked, empty the water out and cut the excess off and recover. Port and wire appropriately. Enjoy bass.

After some measuring, I think that there's plenty of room to put a 12" in one enclosure and the surface still be flush. I think that there's just shy, volume wise, of enough room to put a 15 in there. There is a LOT of room in that little hole...

IMO 15s are way too sloppy anyways, one 12 should be plenty for a little 944.

yeah, 15's are WAY to big for any professional application. But I really think that a 12" would be great in that space...or a 10 on either space. I use two jenson 10's and thry work great.

Somebudy (I can't remember who) makes an enclosed subwoofer box that goes in place of the spare tire. It is designed for (and can even come with) a 10" sub. If I find it again, I'll post it.

I know abt the spare tire subwoofer, but I'd rather have my spare there just in case.
Those cubby holes are a diff story.

replacing the spare tire with anything isnt bright.
