my '86 944 is doing something strange. The instrument cluster is going dead intermittinly . It works fine most of the time but ocassionally will do nothing eventhough the car is running fine .It also has some sort of slow drain on the battery. If I don't drive it every week or two it will go dead .Is there a connection and does anybody know the deal with the guages?

it's bad connections and grounds. Trace a few of the ground wires from the cluster and ground them. Wouldn't hurt to add a few grounds to the engine bay.
