Unhappy Guards Red fading front...

I'm reluctant to use T-Cut or Mer or anything that might take off even more paint, but my otherwise spotless guards red hood and front wings have faded to girly pink!!

Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Is there a way to restore the paint rather than respraying?

It was all fine in March this year - it seems the sun has taken a dislike to my car!

Cheers
F

paint

If the car still has the factory paint, you would be surprised at how thick it is. Try rubbing it out with some buffing coumpound first, then you a finishing glaze, then was it. I use 3M products, and have been very pleased with the results. I think with this combo, you will not take enought of the base color off to do any damage. You will more than likely take just the nasty stuff out of the paint.

after a good compounding, doesn't a polish that has certain oils in it regain the original color and bring back that wet look ???

I tried colour magic, it made it worse!! Its starting to look really bad - each time it rains it gets worse!
It goes more pink where the rain drops settle could it be a bad reaction between the Zymol coating and the shampoo I use?

polish

You really need to buff it out to get the oxides out. The color polish stuff won't cut into the bad stuff. You need a fine compound buffing compound.

Don't know what they have there in in the UK, but I like Meguiar's Fine Cut Paint Cleaner, then follow up with a polish, then a wax. A light cut cleaner with a very fine abrasive will take off the oxidation just fine(and that worthless "coloured" wax you used).

Stay away from a heavy rubbing compounds and stay away from the orbital buffers --you'll burn through paint at the edges of body panels with a motorized buffer and an abrasive compound.

Couldn't get any Meguiars, I used Mer and a lot of elbow grease! It's come out OK (not perfect) but the girly pink is now an orangy red like the rest of the car! Thanks for the tips guys :-)

Wet sanding with 2000 grit sandpaper, 3M rubbing compound and final with 3M swirl remover, then wax. Do not sand all the way down to base paint. Wet sand by hand for better control. Needs a lot of elbow grease.
