Rip 944

Another 83 gone. I hate to see this, however I'm glad everyone survived. He was just a noobie, why can't the timing belt break first? No pop ups for me.

well, our cars just keep getting rarer and rarer, don't they?

It just goes to show you how well-built the 944 is... no-one was seriously hurt, despite the obvious total damage to the car.

I SAW THAT CAR ON THE WAY TO A CLIENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was driving in my own P-car and was angry to find out that traffic was being re-directed, and I was already getting lost. People were everywhere after leaving their cars on the side of the road to watch. A helicopter even landed on the highway and it was a giant "scene".

Got closer as they finally opened up traffic and was horrified to see that it was a 944. Knew that the driver was in bad shape because they taped the scene off. Poor kids.

Hopefully the build quality of that 944 will have saved the kids' lives - like it did for me a few years ago....................

Glad that they are all ok.

How did they get 4 people in there? I had an adult sit in the back once, and it was a miserable experience for all.

from what I read, it looks like the rear passengers were 14 and 15 years old, respectively

My friend's girlfriend tried to sit in the back of mine, she's really small... like, 5'4, and she couldn't fit, so those two kids in the back must have been extremely uncomfortable. I tried sitting back there once, my legs had no circulation, and my head was completely out of the sunroof...

Of course, I sit like a Total Gangsta, with the seat all the way back

The 944 is a very solidly made car; they're just damn lucky they weren't driving one of these newer, supposedly "safer" junk heaps like the CRX, Civic, etc. Then again those cars probably wouldn't go as fast, although they certainly can go fast enough to get people into trouble.

Speaking of the build quality on the 944:

When I did my first oil change to mine years ago, I was jacking up the front driver's side, and noticed that the ENTIRE side of the car - including the rear wheel - was lifting off the ground. Talk about rigidity!

HOLY CRAP that is sad. did anyone else see that they didnt have the sunroof on? bet that if they had it on the top wouldnt of been so wrinkled up. that is just sad. i feel bad for that car, and the occupants.

well we have reports of front impacts and walk aways, rear impacts and walk aways. and this looks like a side impact with some injurys. i'd give the 944, 4 out of 5 stars for my own crash test saftey survey. this stuff is good to know.

and yeah you can get 6 occupants (teens) plus a driver in a 944 w/sunroof on. becuase i did it when i got my 944, not by my choice they all just piled in, and i drove slow real slow i was scared they might start breaking stuff, crazy kids.

18 years old and driving too fast.
I know I did it too, in a '76 Chevette my father picked out. Max speed 65 MPH.
Dad wouldn't let me drive the 911.
What where this kids parents thinking?
This accident happened long before the skid even started.

The hours your Porsche spends parked, you don't get those back.

We had a similar incident on a highway in my city last year. Four teenagers were in a Honda CRX, when the diver lost control, flipped over the center barrier and landed upsaide down on a grass bank on the other side. Tragically, all four were killed (even though it hit no other cars, etc.)

I think you may be correct, the build-quality of the 944, probably saved their lives. Especially since it hit the side of a bridge abutment.
