how do I drop the tranny?
ok so after much deliberatoin and help from you guys I've decided to try to drop the tranny to pull out the drive shaft, then lift the engine out of the car. my questions is, before I do this, how do I do this? I get out of work at 4:30 so hopefully someone will have read this and been able to help me out... how many bolts? do I have to remove the exhaust? where are the bolts, after I drop the tranny how do I get the driveshaft to come out of the bell housing? thanks for the help guys.

To drop the tranny-
1) unbolt cv joints and remove axles 2) unbolt shift rod from tranny and shifter 3) unhook speedometer and reverse lights connections 4) unhook driveshaft coupling to torque tube (inside tranny bellhousing) 5) support tranny 6) unbolt tranny mount (on top of tranny 2 bolts) 7) unbolt tranny (4 bolts) 8) move tranny back and down 9) move tranny out from under car 10) unbolt t tube from engine bellhousing 11) slide t tube to rear slightly, rotate 180 and slide further back This should take about 2-3 hours if you work at a steady pace and haven't done it before. ... and follow it step by step..... example dont do 7 before 4.
Also you can tie the axles up once you have disconnected them from the tranny. No need to completely remove. |
