Lightbulb 100w fog lights

Is anyone using 100w H3 bulbs in their fog lights? The local parts store only had 100w bulbs, they were out of the 55w bulbs. I don't want to melt the new lenses I just got yesterday while melting the bumper on the car in front of me!

I've used them in my 951.
I drive with my fog lights on all the time, daytime running lights and at night for extra illumination.
I found the 100 W where far too bright for oncomming traffic. After a few cars flashed me, I actually stood in front and realized it was too bright.
I recommend you keep looking for 55 W.

Cheers,

The hours your Porsche spends parked, you don't get those back.

I asked a reliable source at a local dealer the same question a few months ago, and he said to never get the 100W bulbs. He'd seen many 944s over the years with melting issues because of it - not to mention that they "negate" the primary headlights - which is not good. Leave that kind of stuff to the ricer crowd.

I converted to the 100w H3's - they were kind of ridiculous (brighter than the 100w headlamps it seemed). One eventually stopped working so I have a feeling it was overloading the relay. I switched back to the 55w ones - no problem.

Well, Wal*Mart had the 55w H3s. I installed them and one worked. The driver side light does not work. I swapped entire fog lights and the driver stide still does not work. I guess it is a wiring issue. It's a little late tonight to dig into this problem. Tomorrow I will try to jack-up the car for the first time and look at the wiring.

Send a PM to Iceshark; he's the absolute god about lighting. He'll definitely advise you to stick with the 55s, but he also has excellent wiring / upgrade recommendations (and sells stuff to do it also).

100 watts? Makes them driving lights. Actually makes them bright lights in many jurisdictions. Also they are two low for brights. So you get written up for not dimming your lights to on coming traffic as well as having your head lights too low.

If you came at me with these on and failed to dim them I would follow you and bust them out with the roofers axe/hammer I keep in the car.

Suggest you leave them at 55 watts and look to up your head lights with quality H4's and IceSharks wiring kit.
