driveshaft question

Does anyone know if any of the following will fit an '87 944 na?
  • 3.6" diam x 37.0" length
  • 3.6" diam x 37.5" length
  • 3.6" diam x 39.5" length

With either a 1310 or a 1350 U-joint.

Thanks,

GHEN

No

The transaxle is connected to the wheels by short half shafts and CV joints, nothing remotely those lengths. There are no "U" joints in the system. The engine supplies power to the transaxle through a central driveshaft carried on 4 bearings internally in a torque tube. No "U" joints here either. The torque tube is a rigid tube that also serves to locate the transaxle.

So what is this question about "U" joints and driveshafts about?

I found a company that makes carbon fiber driveshafts without using adhesives. They spin the carbon filaments directly onto aluminum ends. These are the sizes they have stock, but I am bringing my torque tube to them next month to get a quote, I'll post info when I get it.

Please post if they can make a driveshaft for the torque tube or for the half shafts. If they can make one for the torque tube, it would be a good addition to the aluminum torque tubes I've been fabbing for folks.
