A/C blower switch only works on high speed

have a 89 S2. The blower switch just quit working on speeds 1-3 speed 4 the high speed setting works fine. Does not matter whether a/c switch is acitivated. What should I check first and where?

it's a problem in the switch. You have to disassemble it and clean all the contact terminals OR get a new switch.

The blower switch does not normally fail.......

In the late models you have resistors by the blower in the engine compartment. ....... Check them for breaks or use an ohm meter for resistance....

They are kinda hidden.... but I think you will find them. Look for a white connector about 3-4 inches long with 2 screws holding it down on the plastic housing.

The resistor bank mounted on the blower housing has thermostats incorporated in it. As the years go by the therrmostats get gummed up. Clean the thermostats with carburetor cleaner.
The speed control contains a bank of resistors that get hot when in use. The thermostats prevent them from getting too hot and possibly melting wires or worse. The airflow of the blower maintains the temperature of the resistors and thermostat. Mine quit working except for speed 4 about a year ago. I discovered this by checking with an ohm meter after removing the switch.

Kind of on subject ( trying not to highjack thread )

My AC blower ( under glovebox ) sounds like the blower is falling apart. Are ther any servicable parts or bearings to replace ??? or do I have to get a different assembly..

???

I only kick in the AC to run the second fan when I'm in traffic cuz my system still needs charged.
