924s overheating?

An '88 924s I am thinking of buying runs almost at the red area on the engine temp gauge with the AC on, but drops to half if you turn the AC off (in 100 degree weather). Is this normal? Another problem is the light motor doesnt work up or down. I am wondering if it is possible just a motor relay.

sounds like that fans arent working right. could be thermo switch, which is an easy cheap fix. mine had the opposite with ac on and both fans going it was fine but if the ac was off and i was sitting still it would overheat. my problem ended up being a very clogged radiator and i got a new one. when were the belts last done on it?

Asking if you should replace that timing belt is like asking if you should re-use a condom that may have in hole in it with a hooker.
