holy crap, new Boxster!
just got an email from Porsche

bryanthompson 09-08-2004 08:39 PM

I'll take two

bluebullet 09-08-2004 08:50 PM

why does the bmw z3 keep coming to mind??

CJFusco 09-08-2004 08:53 PM

because the original Z3 was rushed into production after the original Boxster Concept debuted (and was a big hit) in 1993?

ilikemy944 09-08-2004 09:02 PM

are those wheels and brakes going to make it to production?
I mean... I guess so for the wheels, but are those the PCCBs?
Other than that it looks pretty good :)

bluebullet 09-08-2004 09:08 PM

its starting to look a little more 911-ish. And the nose seems to have grown a few inches..and those HUGE brakes...

CJFusco 09-08-2004 09:28 PM

as with most models, I'd have to see it in person to make a real judgement

At this point, I'd still rather have the current (facelift) Boxster S.

Zero10 09-08-2004 11:51 PM

Definately a step in the right direction, but still not my cup of tea.

nize 09-09-2004 12:00 AM

i'm waiting for the turbo version. ;)

serge944 09-09-2004 12:41 AM

Mmm, 997 front, carrera gt rear. Maybe we have a winnner.

CJFusco 09-09-2004 07:38 AM

Porsche will never make a Turbo Boxster, because the performance would easily eclipse that of the 911 Carrera (Boxster S is almost there), a big no-no that they learned when the lower-priced 951 began to hurt 911 3.2 sales.

scottmandue 09-09-2004 08:05 AM

Now where did I put those lotto tickets...

Kind of like the special edition 550 boxster also...

Ha ha, and I have to save up to fix my power steering, like I'll ever be able to afford a boxster!

pearldrum 09-09-2004 09:17 AM

Looks sort of like the carerra gt, I like it.

Brando 09-09-2004 01:08 PM

Can i get a boxster body kit for my 914?

scottmandue 09-09-2004 01:45 PM

I agree the new porsche rims look like they belong on a Dodge pickup...

Only problem I have with a new Boxster... is that you can now pick up a slightly used 996 for $40K.

CJFusco 09-09-2004 01:46 PM

haha good point

fast924S 09-09-2004 06:45 PM

now it just looks more like a 911, ohh well I never liked the boxster, You know its bad when a $30,000 350Z can beat a $55,000 boxster

beat HOW, exactly?

The numbers? The 350Z does not put up significantly better numbers than the Boxster S (the only Boxster that could, in good conscience, cost $55,000) on paper. When it comes to road testers' impressions, it isn't even close: the Boxster is the gold standard to which other roadsters are measured, and the 350Z is the trendy roadster of the moment, but will soon be relegated (along with the TT, the Z3, the SLK, and the S2000) as also rans, while the Boxster will be considered a classic.

Most magazines still consider the Boxster one of the best sports cars in recent memory.

fast924S 09-10-2004 08:15 PM

Well The 350Z beats it in price and you get alot of Performance for the money almost better then the Boxster S. Her I some specs I found

350Z specs

engine type V6
HP 287 @ 6200rpm
Torque 274@4800rpm
6 speed
rear wheel drive
weight 3,197lbs (track)
weight dist. 53% front 47% rear
0-60 5.2 secs
1/4 mile 14.2 secs @ 101mph
60-0 124ft

in 2006 the 350Z will be getting a factory upgrade and will be at 310HP!!

The boxster S is limited to how far they can push her because they dont want to hurt 911 sales. hee are specs on the Boxster S and yes it does beat the Z in some areas but for 51,000 boxster S its not worth it when you can get a 33,000 350Z and be really close to the performance of a Porsche

Boster S specs
weight 2,910lbs
weight dist. 46% front 54% rear
torque 229@ 4600rpm
0-60 5.6 secs
1/4 mile 13.9 secs@ 102mph
Not that big of a difference

ohh and yes some of my specs may be a little different, I just searched google because I couldnt find any of my CAR&DRIVER MAGS
