installing 4-point harness tips, removing front seats suggestions?
Tonight I'm gonna remove the seats in my car to install my 4-point harnesses I got off E-bay. I just have a quick question before I go about getting my paws on my allen wrenches. Can I tip the seat to the side in order to gain access to the inner seat belt locking mechanism to unhook it and swap in the harness? Also, it'd be nice to have the option of using either the harness or my shoulder belts too; can both fit there? The mount on the harness belt is the same thickness as the factory seat belt mount BTW. Thanks for reading.
EDIT: Sorry if this also sounds like a silly thread, but this is my first time putting in harnesses on my car. I noticed that the early 944s had the inner seat belt bolted to the torque tube tunnel. Andy http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif |
are you using the factory seats? if you are you need a harness bar. i tried it without the bar and even crossing the top 2 straps in an X behind the seat doesnt stop them from falling off your shoulders because the sides of the seats are at an angle.

oh and there is room for the factory belts to stay in place.

I have the harness bar already installed in the car. I guess I'm gonna have to live with the factory seats for now but hopefully i won't have too much trouble with the harnesses slipping. Thanks for your replies.

np, i didnt know you had a harness bar. i tried it without the bar and i gave up on it after a day.

would the rails on my seat bend if I tip the seat out towards the door to remove the inner belt lock mechanism?

now that i dont know, when i put mine in i found out that mine is a little different than a 44. on mine the bolt thats on the tranny side is actually into the tranny well and not apart of the seat. all i have to do is side my seat forward to get to it.

ok I got the harnesses in and I did tilt the seat but when I tipped it, I didn't have any pressure on the rails and didn't lean the seat on them. The harnesses fit really good for being a 4-point and its a different feeling not having a lap belt anymore when the center lock sits right below your sternum.
