phone dial center caps

are they supposed to be painted to match the wheels or polished? Mine don't look like they have any paint on them at all. Thinking of hand painting the centers and clearcoating, but not sure how to start.

Also thinking of having my rims powdercoated, doesn't seem that much more expensive than buying the good paint, any recommendations? (DC/Baltimore/Annapolis area or willing to ship)

thanks,

nate

Paint the whole center cap black, then after the paint dries hit the raised part with steel wool, leaving the recessed crest black. After the wheels are refinished take your time and do a better job, but for very little money and time the center caps will look better, until you redo the wheels.

1) Paint the center cap silver with silver wheel paint (available at autozone)

2) get Gold model paint and paint the whole crest. After masking off.

3) Paint the inside of the crest with insignia red and gloss black model paint.

4) Clearcoat and bake at 180 degrees for 20 minutes

enjoy

I did mine like this and they turned out looking awesome.

Thanks for the offer, problem is I'm chea^H^H^H^Hfrugal and already have six center caps so I think I will try to do them myself. Just wasn't sure what the factory finish was supposed to be on them. I still haven't decided what to do with my wheels, they look like at least a couple of them need to be completely stripped before painting so I'm undecided about the paint vs. powdercoat issue. If anyone knows where I could get good wheel paint for less than $15 a can I would like to know! I tried the plasti-kote wheel paint and it appears to be a good product but both the color and metal flake size is noticeably different from stock, enough that I'm not sure if I like it.
