Unhappy 924 Car Door Problems!

My drivers door became hard to open from the outside, not an unusual problem, I understand. So having removed the inner door cover I made the observation that the brass lever connecting the door handle to the inner lock needed to move downwards an extra few mm's. I added a small extention nut and relaced (after giving everything a good covering of WD). When open, the door functions well, but here iss the problem. When shut the door will open and close on both internal and external handle operation (lovely I thought patting my self on the back). I then locked the car. The car will now not unlock! After many hours of saying things like "well this really wont do" I managed to release it with a file and hammer. I have since replaced the inner lock and the exact same thing has happen again. I did try removing the extending bolt, but this only resulted in the external handle refusing to work again. Im currently driving with the door in open and shut mode but not daring to used the lock (cause it wont release). Has anyone any ideas!!!!!!

Many thanks

Does it unlock via the pop-up button on the inside of the door?

more than likely it is time to replace the outer door handle. When I replaced mine the Porsche DEALER had a better price and the handle came with the lock cylinder and keys but check around and let us know.

924 door

Hi Helowrench

Thanks for the response, Im watching one on ebay. Ive replaced the inner lock and the outer catch, so maybe the handle is the way to go next.

Only if maximum force (ie pipe grips and a pivot) is used and then only after many (and I do mean many) attempts. The lock tries, but fails to connect. The problem I believe, is the small pretroding bar from the white locking unit (held with two bolts to the door). This has a small bar that passes through the door to the lock. The lock, when operated, moves in a downward movement, forcing the bar down and releasing the external mechanism.

Thanks

Hi Paul, I had to take my door appart today to swap the guts to a new door I'm painting and see the bar your talking about on the block. I would soak the white block in WD-40 + regrease and if that doesn't work source a replacement. If you haven't already heard of him this chap has a lot of 924 parts at a fair price and is very helpful. Think that handle on ebay will go rather high - depends how much you want to pay and not 100% sure it the thing that is fault!

924 Door

Hi,

I agree, it may well not be the handle. However, Im keen to rectify the problem, and I am therefore trying everything. I may well have a small pile of very attractive bits at the end! I have a few sources for bits so time well tell. It's just one of those annoying problems. I guess it could be worse.

Thanks again

Paul
