White smoke at redline

OK a couple times coming outta the gate I've noticed white smoke at the redline and usually kicks out a nice cloud of white smoke but then goes away. Its only present under hard acceleration and when I take her to her limits at the redlne usually in 2nd or 3rd gear. It doesnt stay white and when I let up on her to normal cruise speeds its gone but still has me asking if this is a normal thing. Your thoughts am I kicking carbon out or something or is this just normal.

Has the head gasket ever been changed in that car?

Sounds as if a little coolant could be breaking through when you push it.

Take a look at what I found when I fixed my valves. Mind you, this car had been well cared for most of its life.

Looky Looky

You could always listen to "old country Doctor" advise - if it smokes when you redline it, dont redline it anymore

ok, i am probably talking out my a$$, but here goes:

it is my understanding that as your motor is turning, it creates pressure inside the crankcase from the movement of parts, the rotation of the crank, and, if your rings are bad, excessive gases entering the crankcase from the cylinders. also, there will be some oil misted/vaporized in the crank. then, if the rings are bad, the pressure then comes back into the cylinders and gets burned, making white smoke. plus, i think the rings are less efficient at scraping the oil from the cylinder walls at high RPM's. like i said i am not an expert (please don't flame me!)

no. oil will show as white/blue. black means that the mixture is too rich.

Just my two bits, the problem you're having is that you get white smoke out the back of a (almost) 20 year old car when you redline it?

Answer: don't redline it! It's red for a reason you know!

Echo the last statement.

Patient: Doc, it hurts when I do this...

Doc: Then don't do it!!

When you say redline, is it possible that you are hitting the rev-limiter? If so, that will cause a puff of smoke......just a thought...

No flames but redline isn't really a big factor in this car.

powerband from 3-5 grand...give or take

Higher than that and you are getting diminishing returns yes?

Maybe shifting a bit higher would bring you more 'into' the powerband of the next gear?

All in all it sounds like you probably just have and old headgasket...not really a problem until it starts happening other times.
