project 87 924S into a 951 turbo?

I want to build a project car.Basically I want to turn my 87 924S into a turbo. If I can take the parts off of a 951 can I just bolt them on.I know i need a left engine mount to bolt on the turbo. Can a 951 intake manifold fit on my car?the olny difference between the 944,924S, and the 951 are the heads and the lower compression from th 951.Has anyone ever tried this project.Should I ?Dont just tell me not to waste my money and buy a 951 the defeats the purpose of the project.Any comments?

This has been done and covered in many, many posts..plus and minus.

You seem like you really want a "project" though and not just an end result.

So, what end result would you like to get? Are you going for speed? Are you going for performance? Just to do it? Resale value (none)?

To answer your questions simply, no. It is not a straight bolt-on. There will be lots of hair pulling and some fabrication.

Best way is to get a wrecked 951, transfer parts. Don't try to mix n match engine parts. Good luck, this has been hashed over many, many times.

Yea, you will need a smashed 951 to use the parts from, You will need to pull your 924S engine and swap the 951 engine in. The 951 enigne is made for the turbo, stonger parts, lower comp ratio, ceramic linings, different head, and I think it has different valves too. Also you will need to swap DME's and the 951's turbo dme too, You will also need all the exhaust parts, and fuel system parts, For the most part, take everything out of the 924S and put everything from the 951 in and then figure out how to wire it.

If your looking for a good project I would stay away from swapping the 951 into a 924S. IF your intrested I would try one of the 3 things

1. Supercharge your 924S engine, alot easier and alot of fun and you can play with boost and keep your 924S engine or,
http://www.speedforceracing.com/productsporsche_superchargers_944v8.php

2. A low boost custom turbo setup on your 924S, In low boost I mean like 6-9psi, Find a turbo and make the pipes to make it work, then figure out how to get the fuel and timming right and keep egt's down. Again you get to keep your stock engine

3. V8 conversion, If you looking for tons of power then drop in a 350 and turn your Porsche into a hybrid.

OK well, First make sure everything is right and working with your car.

some things you can do to your NA are

1. header
2. full exhaust
3. MAF upgrade
4. chip
5. Cam
6. ignition upgrade.

theses six things are just about all you can do to the NA with out spending alot of $$$$$$, With theses mods you will notice a difference but its no supercharger. If you wanna start spending big money you can start rebuilding the engine with performace mods like

1. Race prep head
2. Fully worked crank
3 Raise the CR
4 Get everything lightened and balanced
5 Full port and polish

The thing you will learn fast about your NA is that if you want power from her you need to spend alot of $$$$$$ nothing is really cheap when it comes to getting HP in a Porsche.

As far as the nitrous goes, I love the stuff and will be installing a Zex 50hp dry shot on my 924S, But do yourself a favor before you do this, LEARN EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING ABOUT NITROUS before you start to play with it. Nitrous done wrong can be a very bad thing, but when done right its cheap power, The line is very thin.

Other then that the only way to get big HP numbers is Forced induction.

I don't think you want to make it fast. It already is. You want to make it QUICK!

Good luck & enjoy.

1/4 miles stuff is like automotive T ball. If the ricers and the 'stang guys want to play there, let'em, a road course is where your car will shine. Better to spend your money on DE and become a better driver first. You'll find your car is capable of more than you are.

If you are looking for 1/4 miles neither. Get a CRX, V8 it and be done.

If you like performance mods go with the Turbo. You can spend hours and thousands on that one. European Car magazine is about halfway through their black 951 project car. Big$$$ and Big performance.

Before you get started with Porsches.....You know how much parts cost right? I'm talking aftermarket, not dealer....

Example - Distributor cap and rotor $45 - 80 smackers.

That is stupid. That is what people who know they will loose say to keep thier pride. Just make fun of something because you are not the best at it. If your point would have been that the 924/944 is not designed to compete in this area that would be a different matter. Just because you do not personally care for it does not mean it is not fun or challenging. It is not so very simple as you would lead us to believe. If you don't think that it take talent to keep that much horsepower on a strait line, vs. the awsome talent to take a corner at 30mph, then you are an idiot.

Sorry but I am in a bad mood already. I hate seeing stupid things with no proof to back them.
