Those Boxter guys aren't that bad afterall

I have been looking for a single boxter flat silver centercap on the cheap for some time now.

I decided to post over on rennlist in the Boxter forum to fish for one.

After one assinine post ("why would someone just have one, aren't they sold in sets of four?")
A very nice gentleman offered me one gratis if he can find it.

How's that for redeeming his fellow Boxter owners?!

Oh yeah, there WAS a 928 in his sig line, that would explain alot

True.

I still can't wait till these babies fall below $10k. I should probably start buying spare parts and manuals on ebay now (note to self...you are sick).

It is only a matter of time before all the 911 guys wives trash them and I get to pic up a new project!

Its too bad that the Boxster gets a bad rap because the "women with comfortable shoes" crowd drives them a lot. They're still a really fun, well put together car. I've been watching local prices on used ones, and they slowwwwly but surely are getting lower. With the latest re-design they'll likely fall even more. Come to papa, baby.......................

ah johnny thinking the same thing myself here in the UK unfortunately prices are still firmly above 15k (US $27k approx). Out of interest what is the lowest you have seen them about? Good thing is as you mentioned the facelift........everyone is getting the pre facelift ones updated with the newer bumpers etc so loads of old ones going for nowt on ebay so watching for one maybe with some light damage to the bumpers!!

Good examples can be had for 17k US at the lowest....that is getting a really good bargain as well.

the Boxster is a great car with great handling. it's actually quite interesting how similar in handling they are to a 944. they are quick, well balanced, and relatively light. everything that a Porsche should be

now, the owners on the other hand...

Boxster handles better than the 944 as well; as it should. Great car, but the 1997 model, just like the n/a 944, lacks power.

From what I hear, it isn't that the early Boxter's are actually severly lacking in power, but that most people don't drive them in a manner that bring about the power. The 2.5 and 2.7 units have to have the piss revved out of them to access the last power reserves, much like a Ferrari or 944. Obvioulsy, the Boxter isn't a supercar, but I think the early cars got a bad performance rap from people who shift 1500RPM before redline when they are "really gettin' in her".

I want a 2.7 Boxter..I'll have one in a few years.

Worked on a ton of Boxsters. Always surprised at how reliable they are overall.

Absolute joy to drive. They do need a better exhaust system though.

We looked at Boxsters a little bit before buying our 968 Cab a few weeks ago. Our 968 Cab is faster than those early Boxsters, more HP, cheaper (barely), without all the unnecessary electronics which make repair unbearably expensive. I'm also not very impressed with their overall style..

Still, a decent car. It would still take one over a 928, 924, 914, or 944 NA... But NOT a 914-6, 951, 968, 911, Cayenne, etc..
