speedo not working

on my 83 na the speedometer isnt working. I know a cable runs through the hub and out the spindle. What makes the cable turn. I think i am missing a piece or something all i have is the end of the cable sticking out of the spindle and it has a small clip retaining it inside.

The wheel bearing dust cap has a square hole, the end of the speedo cable is square the clip holds them in place. Now for the answer, the dust cap turns with the wheel. More than likely, yours is broken somewhere under the protective sleeve. To test it, pull the dust cap and put the end of the cable into a drill, and spin it. Your's may have become disconnected at the back of the instument gauge, check that as well.

Yes, the cable can be a pain in the neck to remove. Just pry the dust cap off with a large screwdriver. You need to use an allen key to loosen the clamp to change the cable.

Anyone have any tips on how to get the cable to go through the dust cap when the times comes to put it back together?
