i saw the sticker on a 968 stating that it weighs 3700+ lbs... is this for real? doesn't my '83 weigh something like 2700 lbs? where is the extra 1000?

I dunno how much mine weighs (94 Cabriolet) but the engine is significantly larger... I'm guessing the 6 speed transmission is also a bit heavier than the standard 5 speed in the 944. And the tiptronic must be even heavier... Plus you start adding things like the cabriolet top and the related motor mechanisms, and things start adding up. I've noticed my 968 has a fairly significant sized counterweight in the rear passenger side trunk compartment, under the carpet...

Still, even at an extra 1000 pounds, it really puts my '83 944 to shame.. My gf and I are going to have to switch off on the next "fun run" between the 944 and the 968..

the weight of the coupe is something like 3080 lbs Curb Weight.

There are several ways to measure weight of a vehicle.

Dry weight is the vehicle, empty of all fluids (including gas), passengers and cargo

Curb Weight is the weight of the vehicle with all fluids full.

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is the max allowed weight, including the maximum number of passengers and cargo.

Now, an 18 gallons of gas is about 150lbs, oil, coolant, gear oil, brake fluid, and washer fluid add up to about 40 lbs more. for a total of 3270lbs, leaving only 430lbs for 4 passengers and cargo. 4 - 107lb people and no cargo? not likely.

I would think the GVWR should be closer to 4000lbs. Maybe 3700lbs is average weight with 2 passengers and some cargo (luggage)?
