Anyone running an Optima?

Contrary to the Sears Automotive Professional, Optima does make a reverse post battery. Last month, I believed the Sales dude and bought an International HD model rated at 750 CCA...I would have preferred a Red top...

All things considered, a wee bit more responsive than stock. I believe that with FR's PP2 and the cam, my vehicle is mildy responsive. Also, the test pipe seemed to add to this combo.

However after driving a modified 951, well. After completion of my 911 projects then will probably be a 951. Sadly, the 944 well have to go...

Why bother with an Optima? No need to pay a bunch more money for something that doesn't have a significant performance improvement over an Interstate unless you really have a serious amperage draw or are in deathly fear of corrosion from battery acid.

I think that the Optimas CCA factor has all beat. Additionally, there is a coolness factor...Interstate? I had to replace it (less than one year old), even when new it seemed too anemic...

Unless you have problems with the car, a 650 CCA battery should crank the 944's engine just fine for years. The last interstate battery I had in a car lasted 9 years. The _only_ way a battery (even a cheap auto-zone battery) will die in a year is if there is a dead short somewhere or if there is a fault in the charging system.

As for the CCA, anything beyond the design CCA for the car is overkill unless there is either a fault in the wiring somewhere that causes excess draw, or some sort of modifications that cause excess draw.

No Flames here,

I dont dispute what you are saying, in fact I agree. Everyone is different and I prefer things my way.

Regardless of what the battery says on the outside, I will never buy another Interstate. YMMV.

The cost was within 10 bucks of the Optima...they do sell alot of battery so I cant be standing alone with my preferences...

I am thinking of going with the optima (thoughts of locating battery to rear in the future)

Florida really eats batteries though. Typical no-namer last around two years. Wiper blades a little over 6 months.

Battery never really has the chance to fully cool most of the year. I don't know if it would be the same for the optima.

God bless the NZ new 952 version, the battery is in the cubby from stock, there may be a post in the 951 versions for the earth already, running a cable back there for the positive is pretty straight forward.

I think I recall there being a 'kit' that someone was selling that already had the wire done-up with clamps and all.

Dont euro versions have the same as well? I would assume on the passengers side?

Hey.....how does it vent with the old style battery??

The NZ and Euro are the same... mine is just NZ new.

It vents to a plastic cannister, but I threw that away. And yes on the passenger side.

Zero10 may have made a kit... or Iceshark? In fact I think it was Iceshark who made one, unless that was just a ground kit... hmmm
