Strange sound + slight power loss

I noticed what sounded at first like a light tapping sound from the engine but that may actually be a vacuum leak of some kind. I can't seem to find any broken or loose hoses...besides, there is a slight loss of power...where the engine was perfectly happy to pull from idle with just a lift of the clutch pedal, i now have to give it some gas; it vibrates a bit more. and although the tach needle reads a steady 900 rpm, it sounds like the idle stutters a bit. overall the engine also sounds a little 'rougher' . Does anyone have an idea what could it be?

Check your balance shaft belt. This is similar to the symptoms experienced when it "goes".
