sunroof lifts at speed

One corner of the sunroof in my 1989 944 Turbo lifts approximately 1/4" at "highway" speeds. Does anyone know what causes this and how I can fix the problem?

I have an 87 944na.. If its the same design as mine, I encountered the same issue before. My power sunroof option has never worked, so I dunno if that affects it at all...

Basically, what I needed to do so the sunroof wouldnt lift at highway speeds is make sure that the two metal curved lifting arms in the back of the sunroof area securely hooked into the sunroof panel's housing.

the lifting is caused by the pressure difference between the inside and outside air. moving air causes lower pressure so the air inside tha car is higher than the air passing over it. your hook arms are definitely not hooking.

One rear corner? Probably the sunroof gear that drives that side's lifter arm is stripped as usual. There's a good tech article somewhere (here or at clark's garage I think) that will tell you how to swap it out.

Hehe, sometimes I accidentally release my roof, and it lifts up on the highway.
Since it's only 1 corner, it sounds like only 1 arm is not locked in place.

Is'nt it that you can only release/lock the sunroof if the ignition switch is in the second position accessories ON.
Opening/closing is only possible if ignition is ON or in third ignition switch position. At least that's how mine operates.
One of your sunroof lifting arms is possibly not in the locked position. Could be due to 2 reasons.
1. Sunroof plastic gear is stripped.
2. If plastic gear is ok, the lifting arm is not in the middle of the track's bent section in the locked position.
The track is located in the back edge of the sunroof. If you look at the track, there is a bent section in the middle.

Wow, I never expected so much help in such a short time: thanks guys. I will check the lifting arms to assure they are properly hooked in and examine the gears for wear. Thanks again, you have been a great source of information.
