Random Questions..

so i got the day off tomorrow and planned on spending the morning handling some odds n ends...

- changing differential fluid... its an automatic, so only a fill hole, no drain hole. can i use a cheapy $3 autozone handpump to get the old stuff out?

- shifter sound deadening.. is there an off the shelf product i can put under the shifter housing/boot to quiet it up some? dynamat or something?

- phone dial refurb. the hand painted centerpieces came out real nice.. time to refinish the wheels. while i have the wheels off is there any way to clean up the calipers w/o having to remove them? they're looking a lil crusty...

that about does it. as a side question, does anyone have an experience with automatic starters? is it possible?

1. Yes, a handpump is fine

2. Fiberglass works well

3. Brake cleaner (aerosol) and a wire brush

WHat about automatic starters?

Much appreciated Juva, thanks.

Are automatic starters do-able on 944s... Would they put any undue strain on a 17 year old electrical system?

Couldn't tell you, never seen one installed to be perfectly honest

As long as your wiring was in good shape, I would imagine that it would not hurt the car

Just get a good wiring diagram if you do it - German wiring colors do not match US wiring colors..

When you mention automatic starters is that by a remote keyfob or a press button? Just wondered know of a few sytems but don't know what they are like think there is one made by Kenlowe with the main benifit to it all being it has a timer too so you can start the car at 7.55 am to got to work at 8.00am. I personally don't like the sound of them would be worried about leaving the car in gear etc (auto would be okay I suppose). Also used to be told that you should let the car warm up before driving now a few people tell me its better to drive it straight of as it circulate the oil better??

Strath - I was referring to the keychain fob types. Winter mornings can be below freezing here, and its a good 5-10 mins before the car is up to temp. I've heard the get in and drive advice too, but IMO the engine sounds a little too grumpy that cold for me to feel comfortable with.
