heh well i was keeping this on the down-low, but since the dam has been broken, here is another before-and-after dyno (not my car)

It does smooth out a few things(torque dip at 3000). The second graph must have been a dying engine - only getting 117Hp? The high end was helped, but I believe the first graph a little more...

Both got about 135rwhp, about +5-10 over a baseline 944-spec car. Anyone know what kind of compression these cars had? There are some 140rwhp+ 944-spec cars out there, not sure what mods they have.

hmm, like many, i have seen the dyno chart that FRW has. regarding these charts, i'm not too impressed by figures on paper, that can be influenced by several means. this applies to all articles. i believe in what i can see, and feel, ie: my rear dyno. all you have to do, is ask anyone who has fitted this chip, if they would swap back to standard. better yet, try your buddys car with the chip, and see for yourself.
i think from memory, FRW does state, that if you have the dual chip set-up, when you change over, the new state of tune will take a little while to adjust, before optimal performance is noticed. i notice about 1.5 mins between runs. not sure if this is a factor, but for myself, its a very noticeable difference. what i see on the first graph, is certainly not what i feel, and measure in time. if you read AFJuvats concise article on his impressions of this chip, then i'm tempted to say there is some
"sleight of hand" factor in this graph.
oh btw, why does'nt someone do a dyno run on the msds headers, or a kn, or maybe a sock?
dont get all bent out of shape, its just my opinion, but remember, i drive my car, i dont just read about it!

I like objective results but...

Car guys sometimes seem to live and breath by the dyno. I personally don't really get it. I don't have a 500hp monster. I am just looking for anything that makes it more smooth and fun to drive.

The dme is designed to 'learn' your driving patterns over time...dont know how long though. Hey, there is another dyno for you...chip, then chip one month later.

A while back I dynoed my car. One of the things I played with was the K&N. Except I tryed with the K&N (some percent dirty) and no filter at all...results:
Ok I seem to not be able to find the dyno sheet...I'll keep looking. But I went from 218.9 rwhp, 252 tq - to 219.1 rwhp, 248 tq....first numbers with filter

well believe the dyno or not, i can tell you it makes a huge difference in factors of "fun" and "drivability"

also, a fellow board member decided to challenege me at a light one day, my chipped car vs his non-chipped one. Mine was a good 2 car lengths ahead (maybe more) by the time I started to shift into 3rd.

I'm not sure about this DME "learning" thing. There's no sort of re-writable memory devices on the board anywhere that can store data and modify settings. I've done these back-to-back chip comparisons as well and the differences stay constant whether I swap chips and retest within 1 minute or come back a month later after the swap. Could be some sort of subjective SOTP effect???

Interesting. I have to dig up the info but I thought that the dme became 'accustomed' to your shifting style.

i tend to agree with CJFusco. ask just about anyone who has this chip fitted. there is quite a marked difference, and especially doing rolling, say, 40 to 80 mph tests. its ok to be sceptical about anything that offers an improvemant, especially with companys advertising 40+hp for $20 etc etc. but this chip does exactly what FRW claims.
i tend to reply to most posts concerning this chip set-up etc, but i'm going to leave future ones{posts} about this chip alone, as i'm kinda banging my head against the proverbial! you dont have to buy it, bottom line. just dont like to see posts about"how can i improve my cars performance" ad nauseum.
my last comment regarding this post. most people on here have had dealings with AFJuvat, be it advice, or whatever. i, like most, have had expert advice from mike {and a whole lot more people too!} i think that he seems a well balanced individual {does that mean he has two chips on his shoulder??}anyhoo, take the time to read his write up, on his findings, when he fitted this chip. i honestly think that he did a very thorough job, on his evaluation, just as i'm sure that if there was relatively no difference between standard and power prom, then he would have reported this as well. he is an experienced mechanic, with sound knowledge of the 944. then look at the dyno chart posted. seems a little off, dont you think?
oh yes, the dme learning thing! all i meant was that when you switch over, the dme will start to sense the different conditions/program, and make the relevant changes, but i dont think its instantaneous. it does take a little time to settle, and come to full efficiency.
oh, i was only kidding about the k+n etc.
enjoy driving your 944, thats what its all about.
bob.
