1987 Cold Start Problems...

During summer/spring/fall it runs and starts fine but come winter when it gets cold here in PA it doesn't even want to start a lot of the time...just crank crank crank...

What should I check and further more HOW DO I CHECK / TEST it

Thanks

Does it eventually start after a lot of cranking or not at all? Do you have fuel coming up? do you have spark? You need to give us more details about what is going on if you want help diagnosing it.

To tell you the truth its my fathers car so I might not be able to answer them all....

Sometimes he can get it to eventually start and other times he can't

If it doesn't start right away for me I never can get it to start (but he's used to the car ya know)

I have no idea if its getting spark of fuel...I will ask if he has checked either...would the cold effect either of these?

technically the cold should not really affect anything but knowing what is lacking will help narrow down the possibilities.

He says it does have spark and fuel when it doesn't want to start in the cold

He thinks its something to do with the timing
