lsd question: what does it do?
please educate me...
i hear all this talk about limited slip, which begs the question: what, exactly does LSD do for you/car? remember, i flunked out of physics/engineering... |
anyone feel free to jump in and correct me if i'm wrong...
my understanding of LSD... lets say yer driving on ice.. left wheel starts spinning because it has no traction on the ice while the right wheel has decent traction.. the limited slip differential transfers more of the torque to the right wheel (the non-slipping wheel). |
Check out the "Torsen Diff" articles on my 951 RacerX website.

Livewire is correct it transfers power from the wheel that slips to the wheel that grips. It will help you in the rain or in slippery conditions
|
Just like having both rear wheels attached to one straight shaft but with a slip clutch in between for controlled slippage on turns because the outer wheel has to turn faster than the inner wheel when making a turn. Definitely better than an open differential.

I can't believe he hasnt seen "My Cousin Vinny." Marisa Tomei explains the whole thing :)
