Galvinised body panels

Hello all, I've picked up a set of replacement front wings for my '44. Just wondered how the best way to prep them for painting. If I use paint stripper will it remove the galvinisation from the panels?

NO, stripper will not remove the galvinized coating.

Sanding or grinding will

I think they started galvinising the 924's in 1981 or maybe it was 82 when the 944 came out always forget which.

make sure to use a zinc primer so it can adhere to the galvanize metal.

All 944's were galvanized, and I think the later (81&82) 924's were as well.
The 911's started being galvanized in the mid-70's (75??), I think it was 75, since none of the 914's were galvanized, and they were made until 74...
Anyhoo, just some irrelevant guesses =)

No stripper will remove the galvanization, however if you're really hard on it with a scraper, you can remove it! So, go easy with the scraper, I used only plastic/rubber scrapers to help keep it intact.
Por-15 makes a great surface prep spray for galvanized metal, and most of their paints are designed for galvanized metals.

cool - reason i'm liking to here I can use paint stripper is that I get home to late from work to crack open the buds and go hammer and tongs with the belt sander/drill etc in our quite neighbourhood!
