Pushbutton start?
 

Ok well I was looking at the forums of clarks-garage and it had a post about Pushbutton starts. Heres the reply.

Here goes, ignition switch has four positions: off, run, acc, start. In each one, a specific group of wires have to be connected and they are as follows:
off: red and grey only
run: red, red/black, black
acc: red, black/green, red/black
start: red, black, red/black, red/black.
There are two red/black wires a small gage and large gage. You need to add a jumper from the key switch to your puhbutton arrangement for the large red. Can only disconnect large red/black from key switch. If you remove large red from key, no electrical power for all of the other things you might want to use such as DME and all accessories, so jumper is necessary for this one.

Does this mean all i need to do is take the Big red wire running to the Start position, and re-route it Through a butten, and push it and the car will start?

I dont think ill do this, but i was just curious and a little confused.

yeah, you could tear your steering colum apart to add a wire for a ghetto push-button setup that really does you no good (unless you elliminate the key switch all together)...or you could just run a jumper wire from any 12v source the the signal point on the starter relay with the button installed as a contact-switch...then if you decide you don't want it you can just rip it out.

So basically the electrical flow would look like this

12v Source (battery) -> Button -> Starter relay in the fuse box

Easy enough. All i would need to do is turn the key to the Run position, Hit the button, and smile?

edit : I shouldn't have asked. I really didnt intend to do this when i posted, but knowing its that easy is just tempting as hell.

If you're going to do it...that's the way I would do it. That way you can pull it out easily and leave little to NO trace that any tampering was done.

Now, if you want the car to start via the button only, you'll need to cut the signal prong off the start relay and stick your new wire in it's slot, and put the relay back in on top of it.

you'd still need the key to open that doors, turn on the ignition, and unlock the steering colum.

If i were to do this this is what i would want

-Key in ignition turned to run position (right before you crank the starter)
-Push the button and the car starts up

Wiring the car the way you said should do that right?

yeah, but you gotta be sure to cut teh signal pin off the start relay...unless you want to be able to start it by the key too.

I would probably leave the original start inplace, just incase someone like my girlfriend drove my car for some reason.
