Porsche Crest Make a Cold-Air Intake in your own home for NA

To all you NA owners that have been following me on the Pelican Parts board about the cold air intake. I finally had the money and time to construct it. I have taken pictures. however they won't be up until monday. I am in the process of getting a patent and see if I may find someone to produce a better looking one out of sleeves instead of PVC piping.

Good!

I'd like to see it , but maybe you ought not to be posting pictures before your patent.

It must be a very advanced design if you are trying to get a patent!

Testing Reports of Cold-Air Intake Project.

After a trip to and from work today I deliver the tests of the cold air intake below:

Acceleration: Under the circumstances the acceleration has improved after 4000 RPM is exceeded. There is definitely a noticeable increase in power. (or maybe an improvement from a loss due to sucking hot air in from the engine compartment into the cone filter) Off the line there is still a small presence of lag but after 3000 RPM the car begins to grow stronger as it climbs in RPM.

Sound: For those of you who have intakes on your car from MSDS, Huntley Racing or another maker. With the design of this very simple but yet effective long neck tubing; the sound is even more robust and deeper than your 'engine compartment' intake. Combined with only a Bursch muffler and this intake design, your car WILL DEFINTELY set off virtually ever alarm in parking lot structures and suburban neighborhoods

Intake Temperatures: With this upgrade, the intake temperature will be significantly lower considering that your cone filter will not be resting on top of the alternator and the meshing on it tweeking and warping. The air will be cooler and you will get better throttle response. However, this project IS NOT completed yet and will not be until I construct a heat shield to completely segregate the the opposing climates of air under the hood.

Throttle Response: The grin says all. let off the gas and step on it in third gear and you feel much more throttle response and you'll pretty much feel like someone just yanked your skibbies from your back end.

Dyno: I currently have no dyno test since finances are down to the bottom of the barrel at the moment. Hopefully I will get one soon.

Stay tuned for more information.

Its a great idea but I dont think its gonna make that much of a difference in power or throttle response, Your still sucking threw that AFM whick is a huge restriction and the AFM limits throttle response. So the cold air intake at most will drop air temps which will help, but without a MAF upgrade then I dont see it doing much more than that

I doubt you will get a patent, also, unless the states is different they cost thousands and thousands of dollars. Unless its revolutionary and has a wide market application, its not worth your trouble. try and protect your market in other ways... hit the market hard, get into distribution channels with contracts for supply and keep the price low so people dont startup and replicate...

I made one of those CAI's for my 240sx. PVC pipe (painted black), and a rubber plumbing reducer It actually looked pretty good, almost factory. Ran the cone filter through the inner fender, out of the hot engine compartment air, and protected by the fender liner. Of course, the performance was pretty much unaffected. I figure that intake, and my exhaust (which was catless and LOUD) must have shaved hundredths off my 0-60, but I couldn't really tell by driving it.

yup, Tifosiman is right, my 84 is in heaven right now while my blackie wreaks havoc I don't reccommend using the extended CAI that I had constructed (if I sent pictures to anyone) Reason why is when I dynoed it last, I lost 11 ft/lbs torque. Moral of the story, stick with your stock airbox; who cares about intake sound, make up for it by putting a straight pipe where your cat is.
