new update on rpm stutter/stalling
 

Hello All,

As many of you might remember I have been having problems where the rpms will bounce down to 1000 or even 0 and then back up while I am driving, or sometimes it will just stay dead.

Anyway, today I was driving with the stereo off and I clearly heard a click (sounded like a relay I am guessing)
and the rpms immediately dropped, and then I heard the same click again and the car picked back up. This was repeated 2 more times and each time the first click signaled rpm loss and the second signaled it coming back. The click sounded like it was coming from the left of the steering wheel, inside the dash. Maybe as far inside as the fuse/relay box, but I am not sure if I could have heard through the firewall, so maybe just inside the dash.

The only other thing to point out is I am not sure if this could be the cause of the problem or just another symptom and I think I have heard a click in the past, but I am not sure if it happens every single time I have rpm issues.

Any new ideas?

Things I have done so far: replaced fuel filter, replaced throttle switch, replaced DME relay, unplugged o2 sensor, plugged it back in. checked connectivity of coil (I think?)

Does this happen at idle at all?

The issue sounds like speed/reference sensors, but with the clicking, it sounds like an ignition relay, but I see you have changed the DME relay...

The click is odd, but I would check out the speed and reference sensors next.

Yes it has happened at idle.

I will look into checking speed & ref sensor. I have no experience with a oscilloscope although I do have access to one here at work.

Post the results when I am done, hopefully tomorrow or weds.

If it happens at idle, then i would assume that while you were driving, it happened after you left off the gas? Try adjusting your idle a little bit

thanks for the help, but I don't think that is correct. It happens while under acceleration as well as at idle. The idle is a wee bit rough, but its right where its supposed to be at 850 or so...
