Stone chip guard removal
Whats the best way to get the rear stone chip guards off without damaging the paint - by heating them? Pretty sure mines are the originals. Also who's the cheapest supplier for clear replacements us or uk?

heat gun and very careful scraping - I hear a hair dryer will work, but I haven't tried that.

Hair dryer is pure hell.
I actually used an infrared lamp (bulbs are about $10us and fit in any lamp) Got it nice and hot then very gentle scraped with a rounded metal edge. The residue will come off nicely with lighter fluid (zippo type not charcole)

it is a pain and a time-consuming task. the older and more cracked they are, the harder they are to get off

I am cheap. I used tar remover (in a can), soaked it with a clean rag, then gently scraped with a cake spatula. Worked perfect, although took a looooong time. I prefer to use a plastic tool to remove the film, not metal.

i am actually convinced that using heat doesn't make the process go any faster/slower. when i was down to my last stone guard, i hardly used the heat gun at all, the process went just as fast as before, maybe even faster

I still need to do this on my 951 & 968 Cab.
Excellence had an article about it 2 or 3 years ago. They used some kind of rubber wheel chucked up in a drill to rub off the film. I think they followed up a solvent. 3M Adhesive, Tar and Wax Remover (sold at most parts stores) works well on stuff like that, so I will probably try that first.

I used the rubber wheel to get the adhesive off after I peeled the plastic.
You just have to be careful not to burn through the paint.
