944 TPS problem?

I have an 84 944 that lurches upon acceleration after just starting. After a minute feathering the throttle all is fine. I am guessing its the TPS...any suggestions from the experts?

im not an expert but im also checking my tps and the haynes manual has a procedure to check the switch with an ohm meter.
if you need a copy of the manual section let me know.

It's probably not your TPS. Unlike most cars these days, the 944's TPS is a Throttle Position SWITCH, not a variable resistor sensor. The 944's TPS only senses when the throttle plate is at idle, and full throttle. Nothing in between.

Some amount of stumbling and lurching when these cars are cold is not terribly uncommon. If the problem is severe, check the air flow sensor, the air temperature sensor (integral with the flowmeter) and the coolant temp sensor.

does this happen all the time? when the car si hot, when it's cold? when?

If it doesn't happen when the car warms up, I'd guess the AFM is more likely the culprit.
