rotor with extension?

what is the difference between the two rotors sold on pelicanparts? one has an extension and costs twice as much... is there an application difference?

are you referring to the shaft adapter? All the 944 rotors have it........

It just depends how much you damage the one that is currently on your camshaft. That 3mm allen bolt holds the rotor to the shaft adapter.......... which is then bolted to the camshaft with a 7mm (its a weird number as I vaguely recall???)

So when everyone advices you to use visegrips and the like on the rotor to break it off.......... you should take it easy........cause the adapter is underneath

..so for those of us who have never taken the rotor off, how easy is it to get the old one off without breaking the adapter?

i got mine off. it was a total pain. i did end up using vise grips. i had to break all the bakelite off, there is a brass sleeve underneath which i had to work off with the vise-grips.

sounds like you are better off buying the rotor WITHOUT the sleeve, then you eliminate 1 step!..i didn't realize the sleeve underneath is brass..it shouldn't be super fragile then

I see they sell them with and without the sleeve..i assumed if you buy the one without the sleeve you just attach over the old sleeve..not so?

they all have the brass sleeve. its part of the rotor. one is sold along with an adapter. thus if you are too rough and damage the adapter, you have to buy the rotor and the adaptor.

oh..i was confusing "sleeve" with "adaptor"..yes makes sense the rotor would have a brass insert..then slides over the adaptor....

that's what i meant, how difficult is it to get the rotor off without screwing up the adaptor? What is is made of?

the adapter is made of pretty hard steel. so as long as you don't clamp onto the adapter or pound on it, it should be fine. if you have a torch, a little heat on the brass sleave might help.

when you put the new rotor on, be sure to use some anit-sieze compound. otherwise, you'll be ruining another rotor in the future.
