Audi Transmission parts? HELP!
OK so this has been an ongoing saga....I have been trying to find a 4.11 R&P for my 1985.5 944. So far I have managed to find a company (Powerhaus II) that offers one for $900!!!! no way am I going to spend that when I know (they even told me) that since its not a "Porsche" part they order the Audi equivalent part directly from Audi...and there is no way that it costs them $900.00. So in light of this information I have been trying to figure out what the part # is? Also what Audi transmission have the 4.11 R&P that will fit into my 016K box???? That way I can just buy an old one from a junkyard and pull out the R&P. I am having a really hard time getting the info on the Audi transmission and model numbers. Any help would by MOST appreciated :-) Also is there a higher one like around 5.0?

5.0? jeezus thats getting up there...you would be at 4200+rpm on the hwy at about 70mph. Hondas have a 4.11 or a 4.44 in the Si models..at 80 they are just over 4 grand....they run out of gear around 120 mph.
If you plan to do nothing but autox or maybe small road racing, then go for it..that added acceleration will kick ass. But for street driving, a 4.11 would be fine. my friend 96 GT mustang went from a 2.73 in the rear (at 80mph we were doing a lousy 2200rpm) to a 4.11 (3200 rpm at 80) We still wound the car out to 130 plus mph, and I could burn the tires on a roll in 1st and 2nd gear.

Take a look at the Audi 5000 Turbo Diesel from the early 80s.

My truck has a 5.29 in it... soemthing like a 5.0 isn't unheard of in trucks. Hell, rockwell 2.5 ton axles in military trucks only came in 6.70 gearsets.
Just remember that the lower your ratio is, the thinner the gear gets. You will have a weaker R&P even though it's a more favorable ratio to you.
