Still trying to get that rpm stutter and die, new info
Hello All,
I am still trying to figure out what makes my car stutter and often die. The problem seems to be evolving and so I have new information. Real quick: I will be driving on the highway or at a stop light or anywhere and I will here a relay click (not sure if thats cause or effect) and the rpms will immediately drop, sometimes it will putt along for a few seconds just barely above 0 rpms and then come back, more often it will die. If I am cruising on the freeway I can just pop it out of gear and wait for it to die and then pop it back in gear and that generally does the trick. Note that while this is happening stomping or feathering the gas does nothing. So I am thinking its either a fuel delivery or electrical problem although I have very little knowledge of how cars work. The new information: Sometimes now when it dies the relay-clicking won't just happen once, it will click rapidly, like 3-5 times per second until I kill the engine. Also, I think temperature is an issue because twice now I have driven on the freeway for about an hour and a half and the car purrs along, with a few stutters here and there, and then as soon as I get off the freeway it will just die and will not restart no matter how long I crank the engine. I have to wait a good 10 minutes for it to cool off before it will go again. The temperature gauge reads well within normal. So I am wondering if its a wire heating up and expanding and losing contact or something like that. THanks |
What have you tried so far? If it is clicking, have you replaced the dme relay?
