No brakes??

After sitting for about two months, I finally got the car back together last night enough to start it up and run it up and down the driveway (in 1st gear) a few times. To my surprise, every time I went to stop the brake pedal sank all the way to the floor with no noticeable effect. I pumped it a few times and got pressure back, and the car stopped very slowly. Looking at the rear discs, it looks like the pads weren't even impacting, since there was no place where the rust had worn off. I HAVE been working on the front left wheel assembly, took the spindle off for a while, but I put everything back on, and to the best of my knowledge, correctly. I didn't bleed the brakes for this, instead I just used the coat hanger trick. I have SS brake lines, too. I checked the driveway for brake fluid, nothing there. Checked the reservoir, no noticeable drop in the fluid level. What's going on?

I would double check and bleed them again using the conventional two person method. It sounds like air in the lines.

Where in NOVA are you? my parents live in alexandria. Car sounds like it would be crazy with that S2 motor in an early chasis. Did you have to modify the firewall any to get it to fit? How was the wiring?

Bahhh...I just bled them a few months ago, worked perfectly...I guess I will do this if I can't figure anything else out soon. I can't imagine how air would have gotten in, but yeah, that could definitely be it.

I'm in Falls Church, close to Alex. Yeah, the car pulls quite nicely, but I've never been in any other 944, so I don't have much of a reference. 1st gear isn't much, the sweet spot seems to be 2nd around 3000 rpm, where it pulls like hell. I didn't do the engine swap (I was only 7 or 8 when it was done) but from what I see no modification of the firewall was necessary, but the wiring was definitely tricky. Everything that I need to works, though.

Anyone else have any clues?

Update - Bled the brakes today, everything seems to be back to normal.
