so i hear this bang in the back of the car today
Turns out the tranny mount is finally starting to take abuse after my 6 months of heel and toe and abrupt on and off the gas in mountain turns. I hit 1st to 2nd hard after getting aggravated with idiots in xmas traffic (*****es on the cellie that arent paying attention). Grabbing second and lettting the clutch out and I heard a THUNK come from the back, and the car started to feel like i had a rubber clutch disc and it was slopping around.
Get it up on the lift today at work and its torn off in one spot. Does anyone make an aftermarket one such as polyurethane or something? Also, would there be any downside to making one out of solid aluminum or steel, beside the vibration (I can see better shifts and less slop and power loss through the drivetrain). If the dealer wants too much for one (how much is it btw) I just might have my friend make a mount for me (its nice to have a full machine shop in house. ![]() Also. Lesson of the Day: Dont drive the Porsche in anger. You seem to break a lot more expensive stuff that way. And if a guy in a big Ford Bronco tries to get out of his truck with a tire iron and call road rage on you, push the pedal through the floor board and attempt to pull a better 0-60mph time than Porsche did some 20 years ago.

There are solid aluminum mounts made but my understanding is that you would only want to use them on a track car ..... like solid motor mounts.
The rubber mount for the later cars is around $200. |

I dont mind the vibration to be honest. Several of my customers cars at work have all Energy Suspension Inserts or full prothane replacements. It doesnt bother me one bit.

If you take up ecology on his offer, you can always try the Window Weld upgrade.

Sure, I'm not sure where I read about it. Maybe Rennlist, but probably here. Basically you fill any spaces in the mount with 3M Window Weld. Since it fills the gaps in the rubber it stiffens and strengthens the mount, but as it remains flexible after it cures it isn't as harsh as some alternatives. And it should be rather inexpensive.
