Body styles
Ok...
So I am narrowing my search on the perfect 944/951 for me. Power-wise, I can live with either. Chipped. heh So, body styles. While all seem to be similar in appearance... I seem to really like the ones with the big rear-ends. snicker-snicker Is it my imagination? Are some models or years wider in the back? I have seemed to notice it on the turbo's... I think. Help me out please, I really don't have a clue. (Maybe its just the angles the pictures are taken at?)

The 944 cars and 951 cars came with the exact same rear fenders, so body measurement-wise, they are the same width. Stock 951 cars may APPEAR wider in the rear than stock 944 cars due to larger wheels stock, that fill out the fender wells. In addition, the rear underspoiler underneath the rear bumper on 951 cars will make the car look lower and wider, in my opinion.
Now, if you are comparing a 924 or 924S to any 944/951 car, you will see that the 944/951's flared haunches are much larger than the 924. 968's, being the final evolution of the 944 series cars, have the same rear end body width as the 944/951 cars, but are much cleaner and more integrated. Visually to me, they appear to be more narrow than the 944/951 cars, but look much more modern and updated. If we wanted to get technical here, the extremely limited run of 968TRS cars had additional flares on the front and rear wheel wells, which did make them wider. By that token, the uber-rare 924GTR race car had huge flared fenders and quarters that were several inches wider than any other 944 variant. It's doubtful that you saw either of those variants on the street though........ Hope that helps!

^^^^^^what he said ^^^^^
additionally, I think that the rocker style adds to the bigger arse look. The turbo rear bumper spoiler......I still don't know if I like. It makes the car look a little fat from the rear rather than wide IMHO.

Kewl T.
Mike - if you are really looking for fat you could always puchase something initially a little cheaper that needs cosmetics and go with a flair kit from GT racing or the like. You would spend probably a grand on spoiler kits and a couple grand on paint but in the end, for 6 or 7 k total you would have just what you wanted. Just a thought.

Ok... I am getting the picture here. I was wrong
![]() If all are the same width I will be quite happy. I have looked at so many pictures I guess some of the angles made them look a little more slim. Thanks TCM, but I have my heart set on a 944. No flare kits in my future. I want ---- classy. And the 944 has just that hint of muscle. Beautiful lines... sweet curves... -drool- my wife is gonna hate this car

Great Mike.
I actually meant kitting a 944. They have a few racing fenders that are actually pretty hot. I just don't like the idea of fiberglass very much. Happy Hunting!

I can see upgrading headlights and such, but the body is already near perfection.
