Trying to diagnose a problem with a 1987 924S. The idle suddenly dropped to about 600 rpms and a "hissing" sound became noticible from around the fuel pump area! It could be that the pump is dying causing low fuel pressure OR ......?
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated! Fred Cook '80 911SC coupe '88 924S (gone to new home) |

Check your fuel pressure. Also check your vaccum lines

Could also be a bad pump or something caught in the fuel pump intake.

Looks like it may be a bad pressure regulator in the pump. The cars owner has ordered a new fuel pump assembly and should have it installed in a couple of days. The pump appears to be original to the car. If so it is past due for a replacement!

There is no pressure regulator in the 944 fuel pumps. It's up on the engine's fuel rail that feeds the injectors. There is a back flow valve that helps keep the pressure in the manifold when not running in the discharge end of the fuel pump.
There is a small vacuum line running to the fuel regulator and the fuel damper. If this vacuum line comes of it can cause pressure problems.
