Refinish Phone Dials

I'd have a 1984 944 with 15" phone dials and would like to refinish them on the cheap. I've heard of a spray that I'd like to try. Has anyone used it? Also, how did you prep the wheels?

there are quite a few threads on wheel refinishing..........I prefer to use paint stripper to get the wheels back to the metal and see what state they are in (ie if theres any damage). Can also get them shot blasted etc. Wouldn't recommend sanding unless you have many hours spare. As for the spray you like to try...what is it?

I used Eastwood's Argent Silver wheel paint and then followed up with some Dupli-Color clear from the parts store (the Dupli-Color silver was way wrong) and they look pretty good, how close to original, I don't know.

Wow, those came out nice! My problem is that my wheels are a bit pitted...I'm not sure if stripper will be enough. I'm not even sure if blasting them will smooth them out, although I have no experience with any of this and maybe it could work.

the only smooth part of those wheels is the rim, the center is just rough cast. Mow mine were all corroded inside from brake dust sitting in there forever, I just wet sanded them with 320 until they were about smooth and then painted them. I kind of did a half fast job, really, but it turned out OK, you can't really see the inside of the wheel anyhow.

You can use an epoxy body filler in the pits to get them smooth, just like body work.
