OT: First car computer virus

Had to happen sooner or later...

Mobile virus infects Lexus cars
Lexus cars may be vulnerable to viruses that infect them via mobile phones. Landcruiser 100 models LX470 and LS430 have been discovered with infected operating systems that transfer within a range of 15 feet.

Something to keep in perspective when you're DME *****s the bed....

Was wondering when this would finally happen!

If the BSOD doesn't get ya, the virus will.

Reccommended Maintenence Intervals:

30,000 Miles - Update Virus Definitions

fast924S 01-27-2005 01:58 PM

Yea I can see it now, We will need to get updated scan tools with virus protection and then start downloading Toyota virus protection. You know whats real bad is if they make a virus that can use the new CAN interface, Its links all the systems in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!

Easily fixed. Completely isolate the parts with the bluetooth connection from contact with the other systems. It won't impact the ability to computerise the powertrain management.

I would hope some forethought was given specifically to this type of incident. I imagine, if possible, the simplest thing to do would be disable bluetooth before infection. Afterwards... hmmm, i'd be interested in seeing the TSB on this too.
