My manual transmission on my 86 seems to have a slow leak. I'm wondering where is this leak coming from and how to fix it. Also every time I shift into 4th gear I seem to be grinding the gear. The first three gears and fifth are perfect but going into fourth is a problem. Should I pick up a used transmission on ebay or try to fix this one?

Try spraying the tranny box down with degreaser and clean that sum***** down. This will make it easier to find the leak - its most likely a seal. Then decide if its easy or difficult to fix..........

The seals around the stub shafts. You could have loose and worn shifting linkage pivots/bearings.

Thanks for the tip.....I'll try the degreaser on the trans and see where it is leaking. Is the stub shaft seal easy to replace? How about the syncro's easy or hard to replace?

The stub axle seals are very easy to replace, the syncros are a whole 'nuther matter. You won't know anything until you clean that puppy up.
